NBA: Cavs: Coaching situation still unclear

Larry Drew will sit on the bench as head coach of the Cleveland Cavaliers instead of the dismissed Ty Lue during the night on Wednesday. However, it could be a unique experience, the former Lue assistant has still not accepted the job as an interim coach.

“I’m not the interim coach, I’m just the voice at the moment,” Drew made clear to the media. “As I’m sure you know, there’s no agreement at the moment.”

Drew was one of the most important assistants under Lue and already took over the position of Head Coach of the Cavs when Lue took a health break last season. During this period, the Cavs won eight of their nine games.

“My agent and I are currently negotiating with the organization to adjust my contract,” Drew continued. “No decision has been made yet, and I’m not sure there will be any.”

According to Adrian Wojnarowski (ESPN), Drew, who has worked as an assistant in Cleveland since 2014, does not want to become head coach of the Cavs if they only offer him a contract for the rest of the season.
