The Green Bay Packers have traded Running Back Ty Montgomery to the Baltimore Ravens. In return, according to NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport, a seven-round pick will go to Green Bay in Draft 2020.
The meagre proceeds for the Packers suggest that they wanted to part with Montgomery and that they might have simply fired him if they hadn’t made a deal before the trade deadline.
Montgomery, who had come to 4.0 yards per rush and a touchdown in seven games with the Packers this season, had made a momentous mistake against Los Angeles Rams on Sunday: When he was lagging behind and had only a little time left on the clock, he ran a kick-off from the end zone and fumbled – the Packers couldn’t get the ball back and lost.
The Packers (3-3-1) will now concentrate on Aaron Jones and Jamaal Williams in the backfield. The Ravens are reinforcing their running back corps. Next Sunday, the Ravens (4-4) will meet the Pittsburgh Steelers at home for the AFC North duel.
The Packers also sold Safety Ha Ha Clinton Dix to the Washington Redskins. For the first-round pick of 2021, quarterback Aaron Rodgers’ team will receive a four-round pick in return.
