Handball: Flensburg wins dramatic top match against Magdeburg

SG Flensburg-Handewitt has won the top match in the Handball-Bundesliga against his pursuer SC Magdeburg with 26:25 (14:11) and kept his clean record. As leaders of the league, coach Maik Machulla’s team are still the only team without a loss of points after eleven games. Magdeburg remains second in the standings after their second defeat of the season.

The 6200 spectators in the Flens Arena experienced a highly dramatic final phase in which Magdeburg was 23:26 behind 25:26 and SCM keeper Jannick Green became an insurmountable obstacle for Flensburg’s throwers. However, luck remained loyal to the hosts when Magdeburg’s right-winger Robert Weber only hit the crossbar of the Flensburg Gate with the final siren.

The two-time German champion Rhein-Neckar Löwen takes two points to Mannheim after 30:25 (15:13) with the surprise climber Bergischer HC. In fourth place in the standings, the Lions increased their lead over their fifth-placed rival Bergischer HC to three points.

Eleven goals from director Michael Kraus helped the TVB Stuttgart to the surprising 30:25 (17:12) with the Foxes Berlin. Next to Kraus, goalkeeper Johannes Bitter became the match winner of the guests. The Berliners had to do without numerous injured regulars in the back area, including the national players Paul Drux and Fabian Wiede, and came no closer than two goals during the entire season.

The duel of the “cellar children” was won by SG BBM Bietigheim with a 24:23 (13:13) victory at the Eulen Ludwigshafen. The owls thus remain at the bottom of the table. The HC Erlangen won his home game against TBV Lemgo Lippe with 28:25 (13:12) after a rather difficult start into the season and could thank his goalkeeper Gorazd Skof in the first place.
