NBA: Official: Lakers sign Chandler

What was already suspected in the past few days is now official: The Los Angeles Lakers have signed Tyson Chandler. On Monday, the center had agreed on a buyout with the Phoenix Suns.

As General Manager Rob Pelinka now confirmed, the Lakers and Chandler have agreed on a deal. According to Bobby Marks of ESPN, the 26-year-old is committed for one year and 2.1 million dollars.

It was exactly this amount that Chandler had waived in the buyout with his ex-team, yet he still received about 11.5 million dollars from his old contract.

Chandler, who comes from Los Angeles, is to run as a backup center behind JaVale McGee. Especially in terms of size and rebounding the Lakers had big problems at the beginning of the season. In addition, the veteran is to assume a role as a leader in the Locker Room.

The 2011 Ex-Maverick and Champion is LAL’s much-needed reinforcement under the basket. However, this could make it even harder for the German rookie Moritz Wagner to grab playing time.
