NBA: 5 questions about the trade by Jimmy Butler

The Minnesota Timberwolves sent Jimmy Bulter to the Philadelphia 76ers in a blockbuster trade and got Robert Covington, Dario Saric and Jerryd Bayless in return. Does that still make the Wolves a playoff team and can the Sixers seriously play for the championship? SPOX highlights the most important questions.

The Daily Soap in Minnesota has finally come to an end. After weeks of back and forth the Timberwolves surprisingly traded Jimmy Butler to the 76ers. Together with the four-time All-Star, the injured sophomore Justin Patton also changes to the Eastern Conference.

In return, Dario Saric and Robert Covington, two experienced forwards, are coming to the cold Minneapolis, although Saric in particular still has potential with his 24 years. The Wolves also get Jerryd Bayless and a future second rounder on top.

Butler had demanded a trade at the end of September, a good three weeks before the start of the Regular Season. As a result, the names of the Heat and the Rockets were thrown into the pot as top candidates for a commitment by the 29-year-old. According to media reports, a trade to South Beach was close to being concluded, but the Wolves wanted to raise the deal again at the very last second, whereupon Miami left. Houston, on the other hand, is said to have offered four first-round picks.

The Sixers, on the other hand, were for most of the time merely underdog an obligation. According to The Ringer’s Kevin O’Connor, Philly had made an offer in Minnesota, but they are said to have demanded that Ben Simmons be included in any deal.

Get the Sixers: Jimmy Butler, Justin Patton.

The Wolves get it: Robert Covington, Dario Saric, Jerryd Bayless, second round pick 2022
