Snowboard: Anna Gasser writes history: Historical trick confessed for the first time

Olympic snowboard champion Anna Gasser has secured her next entry in the history books of sports. Austria’s two-time sportswoman of the year was the first woman to present a “Cab Triple Underflip 1260” on the Stubai Glacier, which landed flawlessly and thus once again made an entry in the history books of sports.

Gasser’s jump was a triple backward somersault with half a turn, which was started with the “wrong” foot ahead (switch). “I’ve done some doubles before that, and they’ve all gone out easy. Since the conditions were ideal and the kicker at the Stubai Glacier is very big, I simply tried the triple. The fact that I was able to stand this jump at the very first attempt is, of course, brilliant,” said Gasser.

The feeling on the first meters after landing was “extremely cool”. “It was a goal of mine to be the first woman to show a triple. I’m very happy that I’ve actually done that and helped the girls’ snowboarding to reach the next level.”

Gasser was filmed during her trick by a BBC camera team that is currently shooting a portrait of the Carinthian woman. Five years ago Gasser was also the first woman to show a “Cab Double Cork 900” on the Stubai Glacier.

Gasser only wants to show the newly learned, extremely difficult trick in competitions in exceptional cases. “When big-air competitions are held on a ramp, a triple does not run out due to the low approach speed. Most likely I can still imagine that the jump works at the X-Games in Aspen, where the kickers are also built very large. But even there, everything has to fit together perfectly,” the 27-year-old announced.

Gasser had posted a video of the jump late Tuesday evening on Instagram, by 10:00 Wednesday morning there were already nearly 109,000 hits. The snowboarder started her competition season on 3 November with third place in the Big Air World Cup in Modena.
