Handball: New contract: Lions bind their oldie

The Rhine-Neckar Lions have extended the expiring contract with backspace player Alexander Petersson for another two years until 2021. This was announced by the cup winner on Thursday. The 38-year-old Icelandic left-hander had changed from the Foxes Berlin to the Badeners in summer 2012.

“The Rhine-Neckar Lions have always been my first point of contact. It is no secret that my family feels very comfortable in the Rhine-Neckar region and that I wanted to stay with the lions. I am therefore looking forward to remaining a lion at least until summer 2021,” said Petersson.

Oliver Roggisch, head of Löwen sports, called the Icelander an “absolute key player for our team. He is a top performer and also an absolute showcase professional off the field.”

Managing Director Jennifer Kettemann describes Petersson as “indispensable. The fact that, despite his age, he had numerous other offers shows what an outstanding handball player he is.”
