NBA: Off in Houston: Rockets separate from Melo

After only a few weeks the chapter of Carmelo Anthony at the Houston Rockets is over again. As the franchise announced, the Rockets will be separating from Melo after the 34-year-old has only played ten games for the Texans.

“After numerous internal discussions, the Rockets will separate from Carmelo Anthony and work on a termination of the contract,” General Manager Daryl Morey confirmed in a statement what was already suspected days ago.

“Carmelo showed a great approach during his time with the Rockets and accepted every role Head Coach Mike D’Antoni gave him,” Morey continued. But: “The way we had imagined it after the signature of Carmelo, it didn’t fit.”

According to insider sources from Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, Rockets Melo will not be dismissed immediately, but will first look for a potential customer together with Anthony’s representatives. However, Melo cannot be traded until December 15th, as he signed as a Free Agent in Houston only last summer.

As possible interested parties for the services of Anthony, Kevin O’Connor of The Ringer already brought the Los Angeles Lakers, New Orleans Pelicans or Portland Trail Blazers into play a few days ago.

However, other media subsequently reported that neither the Lakers nor the Pels were very interested in a Melo commitment. The forward had an average of 13.4 points and 5.4 rebounds per game in the current season, but had major problems with efficiency (40.5 percent FG, 32.8 percent Dreier).
