Basketball: Bryant carries Giessen – Ulm takes a step out of the crisis

The Giessen 46ers hold the connection to the top of the table of the BBL. In the Hessen duel with the Frankfurt Skyliners, coach Ingo Freyer’s team prevailed 91:90 (51:46) after a narrow last quarter in their home hall and climbed 12:4 points to second place behind Bayern Munich.

Vice champion Alba Berlin or Brose Bamberg can again pass Gießen in their duel on Sunday.

Meanwhile, the EWE Baskets Oldenburg finished their small negative series of two lost games in a row, defeated Rasta Vechta clearly with 81:62 (53:30) and are fifth.

Medi Bayreuth celebrated the second victory in a row at 113:85 (59:41) against the Eisbären Bremerhaven and kept up with the chasing field in seventh place. In the cellar of the table, ratiopharm Ulm won 85:80 (42:42) against Science City Jena for the second time this season.

Thanks to the free-throw of the best Gießen thrower John Bryant (17 points, 11 rebounds) 16 seconds before the end, the hosts celebrated their sixth victory in the eighth game of the season.

Richard Freudenberg scored the most points for Frankfurt, which fell behind Ulm and remains stuck in the lower region of the table. With 21 points, he was instrumental in the Frankfurt team’s strong comeback in the final minutes.
