Kenley Jansen of the Los Angeles Dodgers is undergoing heart surgery. The procedure will be performed on November 26th and was expected.
The Dodger Closer will then be unable to undertake any sporting activities between two and eight weeks, depending on the healing process. However, Jansen should be fully fit again before the jumping training.
The operation serves to correct Jansen’s irregular heartbeat. For him it is already a second such intervention, after he had to go under the knife already after the 2012 season.
On August 9 Jansen had to go to hospital with cardiac arrhythmia before the series in Denver against the Colorado Rockies. His heart rhythm was then corrected using a defibrillator.
Jansen then dropped out for a while and finally returned to the Dodgers team a few weeks before the playoffs started.
In the 2018 season he had 38 saves and a 3.01 ERA over 69 missions. In nine postseason games, Jansen finally got a 1.69 ERA with three saves and 13 strikeouts. In the World Series, however, he lost with Los Angeles to the Boston Red Sox in only five games.
