MLB: After infection: Clevelands Martin healthy again

Leonys Martin was written in good health. The outfielder of the Cleveland Indians had not played since a life-threatening infection in August, but is now allowed to train again without any restrictions and is expected back to Spring Training.

The news came after Martin was on Tuesday for a follow-up at the Cleveland Clinic, where he had already been treated.

The Indians declared that they expect Martin back in top form at the start of the 2019 season. Martin fell ill after playing against the Minnesota Twins on 7 August and was hospitalised on 8 August. The doctors found that a bacterial infection had penetrated his bloodstream. This then attacked his internal organs.

Martin only came to Cleveland from the Detroit Tigers for the Trade Deadline at the end of July and only played six games for his new team due to his illness.

Martin has five seasons in the MLB and has played for Texas Rangers, Seattle Mariners, Chicago Cubs, Tigers and Indians. For the new season, he has already signed a one-year contract worth three million dollars.
