Canadian Super G World Champion Erik Guay has announced his immediate resignation in Lake Louise on Thursday. Originally, the 37-year-old from Mont Tremblant had intended to play for a full season.

The serious injury to his compatriot Manuel Osborne-Paradis, however, had caused a final rethink, Guay explained.

“It no longer makes sense to take the risk,” explained the father of four daughters on the sidelines of the current Alpine Ski World Cup in Lake Louise.

Speed specialist Guay celebrated a total of five victories in the World Cup (3 downhill, 2 super-G) and also won the super-G classification in 2010. In 2011 he had become downhill world champion in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, in 2017 in St. Moritz he gained World Championship gold in Super-G and silver in downhill.
