Basketball: Despite a hole of millions: Bamberg doesn’t give up

Brose Bamberg wants to continue the “Bamberg basketball success story” despite a million-euro hole in the club’s cash register. The former series master announced this on Friday in a press release and gave further details about his financial crisis. Supervisory Board boss Michael Stoschek also accused Rolf Beyer, who has since been dismissed, of “serious management mistakes”.

“Stoschek is quoted as saying that “I have worked very well and trustingly with Rolf Beyer personally over many years”: “All the more I regret his serious management mistakes, which have forced us to accept these consequences”. According to information now published, the club is lacking “funds in the millions” at the end of 2018.

The fourth-placed basketball club in the Bundesliga (BBL) announced on Wednesday that it could only be saved from insolvency by unscheduled financial aid from the Brose Group and Stoschek. Beyer, whose farewell at the end of the year was already certain, had to leave his post early. Stefan Holz, Managing Director of BBL, told the SID on Thursday that the Franconians were in an awkward position.

Already in the pre-season, the management had “not managed to present a balanced budget by the end of the year”, according to the announcement of Friday. Even then, Brose and Stoschek would have made up the shortfall. Also in the future the main sponsor stands just like Stoschek behind the Bamberger basketball.
