NBA: Spurs “embarrassed” after blowouts

After a 39-point crash in Minnesota, the San Antonio Spurs also went home to a sensitive bankruptcy against the Houston Rockets. After the second debacle, the players humbled themselves within a few days and were ashamed of their achievements.

“The boys are ashamed and are on the ground at the moment,” Patty Mills told Michael C. Wright of ESPN. “This is about the big picture. It’s about who we represent and who we’re actually playing for.”

Mills also appealed to the pride of his teammates not to defile the name of the Tracks organization. The bankruptcy against the Rockets (105:136) was the second highest home defeat in the history of Franchise, two bankruptcies in a row with at least 30 points gap last over 30 years ago.

Obviously there are problems in the defense, but coach Gregg Popovich was also dissatisfied with his offense. “Our attacks are piecemeal and have much to do with me. I have to work better there. Defensively, of course, we also have to show more commitment and simply act more cleverly. Anyway, we’ve got a lot of work to do.

At the moment the Spurs have a balance of 10-12, which means 14th place in the Western Conference. The last time the Spurs were as bad as at the moment in 1996/97, it was the season when San Antonio chose Tim Duncan as number one in the following draft.
