Boxing: Boxer after knockout in critical condition

The dethroned Canadian professional boxing world champion Adonis Stevenson is in critical condition after the knockout in the title fight on Saturday evening in Quebec against the Ukrainian Alexander Gwosdyk.

His promoter Yvon Michel explained that his protégé was in intensive care. Stevenson had lost his WBC title in the light heavyweight by knockout in the eleventh round.

The 41-year-old had gone down after a hail of blows from the Ukrainian. He was taken on a stretcher from the hall and taken to a hospital.

Stevenson has been World Boxing Council Champion since 2013 and has successfully defended his title nine times. He won 29 of his 32 professional fights, 24 of them early. In addition, there are now two defeats and a draw.
