MLB: Former NY star returns to Big Apple

The Seattle Mariners and New York Mets have agreed on an extensive trade to send all-star second baseman Robinson Cano and starloser Edwin Diaz to Queens. In return, five players go to the northwest of the USA.

After days of negotiations, the pact between the Mariners and Mets is now perfect. Cano returns to the Big Apple after five years in Seattle after starting his career with the New York Yankees.

Cano will earn a total of $120 million over the next five years. As a result, the Mariners send 20 million dollars in cash to New York as compensation, which the commissioner’s office had to approve. The Mets will also receive Diaz, who will remain under team control until the end of 2022. To make the deal perfect, Cano gave his consent as he has a no trade clause.

To the Mariners, who had recently traded pitching Ace James Paxton to the New York Yankees, go Outfielder Jay Bruce, Reliever Anthony Swarzak, Outfield-Prospect Jarred Kelenic, Pitching-Prospect Justin Dunn and Pitcher Gerson Bautista.

The bottom line for the Mariners is that if the existing contracts for Bruce and Swarzak are taken into account, the loss of Cano will save about 64 million dollars.
