NBA: Trade! Bucks get new Point Guard

The Milwaukee Bucks have set up a trade for George Hill of the Cleveland Cavaliers, apparently involving five players and three teams. Several media report this in unison.

According to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, the Bucks are sending Dellavedova, John Henson and two draft picks to Cleveland in return for Point Guard Matthew Dellavedova. Apparently this is the first and second round pick of the Bucks in 2021, whereby the first round pick is lottery-protected (1-14).

The Washington Wizards are also involved in the trade. As Brian Windhorst (also ESPN) learned, Washington receives Sam Dekker from the Cavaliers, but Jason Smith and a second round pick go to the Bucks.

This deal gives the Bucks more financial leeway next summer if the franchise decides to get rid of Hill. Although the Point Guard still has a contract until 2020 (about 19.5 million dollars per year), only 1 million dollars is guaranteed for the next season.

Dellavedova and Henson, on the other hand, will each earn around 10 million dollars in 2019/20, so that Milwaukee could save around 19 million dollars after this trade with the dismissal of Hill next summer. In 2019, Khris Middleton, Eric Bledsoe and Malcolm Brogdon, among others, will become Free Agents.

Neither Dellavedova nor Henson, who is currently also injured at the wrist, have played a major role in Head Coach Mike Budenholzer’s team this season. Hill scored 10.8 points and 2.8 assists for the Cavs and scored 46.4 percent of his three. However, he has already missed eleven games with a shoulder injury.
