Cologne – Defending champion Cameron Naasz (USA) has secured his third win of the season in the Red Bull Ice Cross World Championship at the race in Yokohama and regained the lead in the overall standings. In contrast, Luca Engler from Rosenheim had to be content with a disappointing 35th place.
“I am really angry. I crashed in exactly the same place as last year,” said the former ice hockey player, for whom the last 64 final lap was the final stop. “The top 16 would have been possible. Now it’s time to look ahead. I will compete next in South Tyrol”, said the 22-year-old.
Naasz, who leads the World Championship ranking with 2200 points ahead of Canadian Kyle Croxall (2050) and Austrian Luca Dallago (1900), celebrated the 20th victory in his 54th World Championship race in Japan. The next event is scheduled for next Saturday in Le Massif de Charlevoix near Quebec City.
