After a strong sprint: Ackermann celebrates first victory of the season at Clásica de Almería

Pascal Ackermann (Bora – hansgrohe) has won the 35th edition of the Spanish one-day race Clásica de Almería and thus repeated his victory of the previous year. The 25-year-old from the Palatinate region of Germany won the 187.6-kilometre race on Sunday, with the start and finish in Roquetas de Mar, in a long sprint just ahead of the Norwegian Alexander Kristoff (UAE Team Emirates).
European Champion Elia Viviani (Cofidis) from Italy sprinted to third place. Fourth place went to Danny van Poppel from the Netherlands (Circus – Wanty Gobert), fifth place went to the Slovenian Luka Mezgec (Mitchelton -Scott).

After two second places in the Mallorca Challenge, Ackermann celebrated his first victory of the 2020 season in Almeria. For Bora – hansgrohe it was the second success this year after Emanuel Buchmann had won the Trofeo Serra de Tramuntana in Mallorca.
