World Cup Finals without spectators

In March, the Alpine World Cup finals will take place in Cortina d’Ampezzo – but without spectators. The organizers are reacting to the coronavirus epidemic.

The Alpine World Cup finals in Cortina d’Ampezzo, Italy, will take place without spectators due to the coronavirus epidemic.

This is what Markus Waldner, race director of the international ski federation FIS, told the Swedish TV station SVT.

The races will take place from 18 to 22 March. Cortina is located in the Veneto region, which is severely affected by the outbreak of the virus. “As it looks now, the races will be held in Cortina, but without fans,” said Waldner.

The number of people infected in the Apennines rose to 401 on Wednesday. The coronavirus has already claimed twelve lives in Italy. Numerous sporting events have been cancelled in Italy, and soccer matches in the Serie A and Europa League are being played as “ghost games” without spectators.
