Raw Air: Individual jumps cancelled

The individual jumping of the Raw-Air-Tour in Oslo is cancelled. The reason is bad weather with strong winds and water on the jump hill.

The first individual competition of the Raw-Air-Tour of ski jumpers in Norway has been cancelled on Sunday.

Bad weather with strong winds as well as water on the jump hill made it impossible to hold the competition on the Holmenkollen hill in Oslo. The competition will be repeated on Monday in Lillehammer, the originally scheduled qualification will be cancelled. The qualification will take place on Tuesday before the individual competition, which was planned anyway in the Olympic town of 1994.

The women’s jumping competition in Oslo, which was scheduled for Sunday, also fell victim to the conditions and had to be cancelled.

Schmid leads evaluation
After three of 16 rounds in the men’s event, the German youngster Constantin Schmid leads the Raw Air classification, the winner of which receives 60,000 Euros prize money. Due to the corona crisis, the competition would have taken place without spectators anyway.

The 20-year-old Schmid (Oberaudorf) was the strongest DSV eagle on Saturday, leading the German team in team jumping to second place behind the superior host Norway and successfully defending the overall lead, which he had taken over the day before with his victory in the qualification. However, Schmid’s lead over the Norwegian Marius Lindvik is only 0.9 points before the next scoring round at the qualification in Lillehammer on Monday (Raw Air: individual jumping large hill from 17.30 hrs).

The German top jumper Karl Geiger (Oberstdorf) is only twelfth in the Raw Air classification after two mixed jumps in the team competition. The cancellation of the individual competition was a setback for the Allgäuer in the fight for the overall World Cup. This leaves Geiger only three individual competitions to make up for the 118-point gap to leading Austrian Stefan Kraft.
