Martin Fourcade has declared his resignation after the races in Kontiolahti. The Frenchman wants to show himself to his fans in Finland for the last time in the cross-country ski run and thus celebrate a farewell to his impressive career.
“At no time could I have imagined even one hundredth of what I have experienced in my career. This has far exceeded my best dreams,” he explained in an interview with L’Equipe.
When he announced his retirement before his last race, he decided to do so so that the audience and his family know that this will be his last race. So let’s all have fun one last time
Actually he wanted to end his career in Oslo. This would have closed a circle for him, as “the Norwegian audience had been my best enemy for a long time”. But the corona virus and the resulting cancellation of the last World Cup station ruined this plan.
Fourcade – Dominator and opinionated athlete
The 31-year-old dominated the Biathlon World Cup almost at will for a long time and won the overall standings seven times in a row from the 2011/12 season onwards. This weekend he could take the big crystal ball for the eighth time in Finland and thus leave with the really big triumph.
In addition to these successes, he ran for Olympic gold five times and secured thirteen World Championship titles.
But the Frenchman was also a fixed point in biathlon besides the cross-country ski run. In the fight against doping, the exceptional biathlete was always in the front line and took a clear stand, especially in the personalities of Alexander Loginow.
