NFL-Legend will help Rams fans

The Los Angeles Rams present their new logo and reap a shitstorm from the fans. Club icon Eric Dickerson offers his help to the supporters.

Former Rams professional and current vice president of business development Eric Dickerson has offered to act as the voice of the fans in protest against the new team logo presented earlier this week.

“I read your comments on the new logos and share your disappointment. I will speak to the Rams on our behalf,” the Pro Football Hall of Fame member wrote on Twitter and announced he would be seeking dialogue with the franchise’s managers.

At the same time, he shared two suggestions from supporters for a revised logo and asked fans to vote on which one they would prefer.

Rams want to usher in a new era
With the new logo, the Los Angeles Rams want to start a new era in the upcoming NFL season.

“2020 is the beginning of a new era for the Los Angeles Rams – with a new home in the SoFi stadium that will set a standard for sports and entertainment – and a new brand,” the California franchise announced on Monday on its homepage.

Instead of a ram’s head as before, a modern logo with a dynamic LA lettering will now be used to “develop an identity that celebrates both the team’s historic history and LA’s diverse and dynamic community.

In addition, the previous navy blue, light gold and white colour scheme introduced in St. Louis in 2000 has also been replaced by the somewhat lighter shades of “Rams Royal” and “Sol”.

Criticism and mockery of the new logo
However, the marketing move of the 1999 Super Bowl winner could prove to be an own goal. Even when the emblem was leaked a few weeks ago, it was met with great criticism and ridicule. Especially the similarity to the logo of local rival Los Angeles Chargers angered many fans.

And even after the official presentation the response was not really any better. “The ugliest logo I’ve ever seen”, “You look like the Chargers”, “The Rams are spending billions of dollars on a new, state-of-the-art stadium and shopping for a new logo in the 99-cent store” or “First Todd Gurley, now the … don’t you want fans?” were just some of the comments on Twitter.

Even before the unveiling, Rams CEO Kevin Demoff conceded that the new look would require some adjustment time for some of the fans. “I’m sure it will be a surprise. It will be a change. But it’s many things and I think it’s a change that our fans will learn to know and love over time.
