Kaepernick defends protests

After the death of an African-American, protests against police violence are taking place in Minneapolis. Colin Kaepernick comments on the demonstrations.

Former star quarterback Colin Kaepernick has defended the massive protests against police violence after the death of an African-American in Minneapolis.

“When politeness leads to death, revolt is the only logical reaction,” the 32-year-old wrote on Twitter: “We have the right to defend ourselves! Rest in Power George Floyd.”

The Minneapolis footage of a police officer kneeling on the neck of dark-skinned US citizen George Floyd (46) quickly made the rounds. Floyd first lost consciousness in the incident – later in hospital also his life. As a result, demonstrators had given vent to their anger over the past few days.

Kaepernick becomes the symbolic figure of the protests against police violence
“The calls for peace will rain down, and when they do, they will fall on deaf ears, because their violence has provoked this resistance,” added Kaepernick, who has not been able to find a job in the NFL since the San Francisco 49ers were released in early 2017.

Kaepernick had become the symbolic figure of the protests against police violence, especially against dark-skinned US citizens. Kaepernick had already demonstrated in 2016 in the NFL against police violence and racism in America’s everyday life. During the national anthem, which sounds before every game, the now 32-year-old knelt down. With this he had caused a worldwide sensation.
