Trump criticizes Brees – he counters

The debate on the American flag is one chapter richer. Donald Trump criticizes NFL star Drew Brees, but this time he finds the right words.

Donald Trump has publicly criticized NFL quarterback Drew Brees on Twitter for his statement on the American flag.

But the New Orleans Saints superstar immediately fired back at the US president on Instagram, regaining the respect of a teammate he had previously pissed off badly.

“I think he’s really one of the greatest quarterbacks, but he shouldn’t have changed his original stance about honoring our beautiful American flag,” Trump wrote. “We should stand up straight, ideally salute or put our hand on our heart. There are other things you can protest, but not our great American flag – AND NO KINGS.”

Brees, who had recently expressed similar sentiments, now struck a completely different note: “To President Trump: After my ongoing conversations with friends, teammates and leaders in the black community, I realized that this is not about the American flag. We can’t continue to use the flag to push people away or distract them from the real issues facing our black communities.”

Thomas is excited about Bree’s response to Trump
This was already the case in 2017, he said, and his own comments “regrettably” brought this back to the fore: “We must stop talking about the flag and focus our attention on the real problems. He said it was a critical point in the history of the nation.

Brees, one of the league’s best playmakers, had caused a media shitstorm after the death of US citizen George Floyd when he declared: “I will never agree with anyone who is disrespectful to the flag of the United States of America or our country. The 41-year-old had talked about former QB Colin Kaepernick, who in the 2016/17 season got down on his knees in protest against racism and police violence while playing the national anthem before the games.

Many black athletes had sharply criticized Brees for these statements – among them Brees’ teammate and star receiver Michael Thomas. He now also reacted to the new statements of his colleague who had already publicly apologized before – this time with praise: “My QB!
