MLB: Giants kneel during hymn

Gabe Kapler, manager of the San Francisco Giants, and some players set an example against racism, kneeling down at the national anthem.

In the wake of the Black Lives Matter movement in the USA, the San Francisco Giants have also set an example against racism.

Manager Gabe Kabler, as well as some players of the MLB club, kneeled down before a test match on Monday night during the national anthem.

Before the game against Oakland Athletics, several photos showed Brandon Crawford placing his hands on the shoulders of his teammate Jaylin Davis and coach Antoan Richardson.

Since the violent death of the African-American George Floyd in May, who was killed in a police operation, many athletes have now taken up positions in the protests that have broken out over this.

As early as 2016, former NFL quarterback Colin Kapernick was the first US sportsman to kneel during the national anthem – this gesture had triggered a fierce debate in the USA at the time and was criticised by many people.
