Bitter failure for Rieders Flames

The New York Islanders also win their third game in the NHL against the Washington Capitals. The Calgary Flames lose it after overtime.

National team player Tobias Rieder has once again shone in the NHL playoffs as an undercutting specialist, but must fear for his place in the quarter-finals with the Calgary Flames.

The 27-year-old contributed to the 4:5 defeat after extra time against the Dallas Stars in a 4:3 intermediate defeat. Calgary conceded the 2-2 draw in the series and need two more wins to continue.

Already in the second game of the series as well as in the qualifying round against the Winnipeg Jets, the man from Landshut had scored when his opponent was one man more on the ice.

Without striker Tom Kühnhackl and goalie Thomas Greiss, the New York Islanders put themselves in a perfect starting position in their series.

The team from the Big Apple defeated the Washington Capitals around superstar Alexander Ovetschkin 2-1 after extra time and took a 3-0 lead in the best-of-seven series. Mathew Barzal (65th) scored the decisive goal in overtime in Toronto.
