Two years ago, ex-tennis pro James Blake was forcibly brought to the ground by a police officer in front of a hotel in Manhattan. Now a disciplinary procedure has been initiated.
“He never said’ NYPD’.He didn’t say he was a cop,”Blake said Tuesday according to AP.”He didn’t say’ Freeze, as you see in movies.”
The policeman James Frascatore had testified that he had been on the trail of a credit card fraudster who had looked like Blake.Due to the operation in the middle of New York, he wanted to stop him in a surprise effect. He had been warned that the suspects could be armed with knives. He therefore wanted to get control of him before he said he was a policeman. He also said that he then apologized to Blake – which he denied – “When it was over, the officer offered me a handshake, but he didn’t apologize,”Blake said.
The action against Blake caused a stir, in particular, because it was part of a series of attacks by police officers who violently attacked unarmed coloured men.According to the New York police, Blake looked like a suspect that the color of his skin didn’t matter,”This wasn’t supposed to happen to me.This should not happen to anyone,”Blake said.
In his new book “Ways of Grace”, Blake comments in detail on everything.Among other things, he wrote here that it was initially said by the police that he had only been detained for ten minutes – and had not been treated roughly or had been handcuffed.Blake then asked the hotel staff for the video from the surveillance camera. After talking about the incident in an American TV show, the police were forced to publish the video and change their story.
