Laver Cup: Roger Federer hopes for a great story

Roger Federer is convinced that the Laver Cup will be a success. And not only at its first edition, but for a long time.

The event may be named after the great Rod Laver, the team bosses the legends John McEnroe and Björn Borg – the driving force, this impression cannot be denied, but behind the competition between Europe and the world is Roger Federer. Not only because selected members of his box have been wearing caps all year round to promote the “Laver Cup”.

Federer himself, who arrived in Prague on Tuesday, had promoted the three-day event together with Tomas Berdych at the venue. And I don’t want to hear about the fact that there wouldn’t be any big sports at the weekend. And not just a fun event.

“It’s not a show fight,”Federer explained in Prague.”I know some people have used that word, but I don’t like it.”

Roger Federer knows his way around real show fights – the Swiss has already completed two of them in 2017 for a good cause, one against Andy Murray in Zurich and another against John Isner in Seattle. The outcome of these matches?Long forgotten.Björn Borg is sure to want to win the Laver Cup.And I know John McEnroe doesn’t want to lose.”

Comparisons with the Davis Cup are forbidden from the point of view of the 19-time Grand Slam champion:”The Laver Cup is three days a year, and that was? s”, says Federer. It’s a new event, hopefully this will be the start of a great story.”
