Winter sports: Ski broadcasts: ÖSV awards TV rights

The competitions of the Austrian Ski Association (ÖSV) will continue to be shown on ORF in the future: The public service has been awarded the contract for TV, radio and online rights for the corresponding winter sports events in Austria, he announced in a broadcast on Thursday. The term is “at least three years”, according to an APA request from Küniglberg.

In June, the Austrian Ski Association (ÖSV) announced the rights for “all World Cup events of the International Ski Federation (‘ FIS’) taking place in Austria in the disciplines Alpine Skiing, Ski Jumping, Nordic Combination, Cross-country Skiing, Freestyle and Snowboard for exploitation in the licensed areas of Austria (seasons 2017/18 ff.) and International (seasons 2018/19 ff.)”.Most recently, they had a five-year contract.

ORF Director General Alexander Wrabetz sees this conclusion as a guarantee for “further fantastic winter sports events from Austria”, and ÖSV President Peter Schröcksnadel emphasised that “together we can now show the public winter sports from Austria freely and without paying barriers”.The ORF is “the world’s number one in ski transmissions, this quality is not achieved by anyone else”.According to media reports, the pay-TV channel Sky had also shown interest in the rights.
