Cycling: WM: Sagan wins title hat-trick – Kristoff takes second place

The Slovakian Peter Sagan has done a historic job at the World Championships in Bergen, Norway, and was the first driver to win the road race title for the third time in a row.

The 27-year-old, who is under contract with the German team Bora-hansgrohe, won on Sunday after 267.5 km ahead of the Norwegian local hero Alexander Kristoff and the Australian Michael Matthews.

Sagan had already won the rainbow jersey in 2015 (Richmond/USA) and 2016 (Doha/Katar).After Captain John Degenkolb’s cancellation due to illness, the nine German starters had moved into an outsider role and had nothing to do with the outcome of the race. The only German champions among the pros are Heinz Müller (1952) and Rudi Altig (1966).
