ATP: First title for Gojowczyk in first final

Ten years after his debut on the ATP tour, Peter Gojowczyk from Munich won his first title in his first final appearance.

In the Metz final, the 28-year-old conquered the Frenchman Benoit Paire, who was seeded seventh, 7-5,6-2.Gojowczyk had benefited in the semi-final from the sick leave of Hamburg’s Mischa Zverev.

Gojowczyk was at the BMW Open 2007 in Munich for the first time at the ATP tournament, when he was defeated in the first round of qualifying by Marc Meigel from Würzburg, who had long since resigned. In Metz “Gojo” also had to fight his way through the qualification into the main field.

His favourite tournaments are the Grand Slams, and at the US Open in 2013 Gojowczyk reached the second round of one of the four major tournaments for the first time.He then made it into the world’s top 150.In Metz he was the number 95, and next week he will make a clear leap forward.Gojowczyk’s best ranking so far was 79th place in November 2014.
