WTA: Hingis again number 1 in doubles

Independently of winning the WTA Premier 5 tournament in Wuhan, China: Martina Hingis will replace Lucie Safarova next Monday at the top of the double world rankings.

A nicer gift would have been Martina Hingis for her 37th birthday. It’s hard to make your birthday. Two days after next Saturday’s celebrations, the Swiss woman is allowed to bang her corks again.

No matter how Hingis and her Taiwanese partner Yung-Jan Chan do in Wuhan, her return to the double-throne can no longer be taken away from her.Hingis last held the double number 1 in August 2016.It’s gonna be your 68.Week at the pole position.

For Hingis/Chan things could get even better. The current US Open winners are already in the quarter-finals at the Dongfeng Motor Wuhan Open.Against Raquel Atawo/Darija Jurak (USA/Croatia) the successful duo only played three games. For both of them it’s already the eighth joint tournament win this season.
