WTA: Wozniacki qualifies for finals

With a strong season, Caroline Wozniacki qualified for the fifth time early for the WTA finals in Singapore.

Seven finals in 2017 and the title in Tokyo speak for themselves.Caroline Wozniacki plays strong tennis this season and is now reaping the fruits she deserves.For the fifth time after 2009,2010,2011 and 2014, the Danish player is among the best eight players of the season and has qualified early for the final event in October.

The statistics don’t lie: The former world number one from Odense has already lost 53 times this year as the winner and only 18 defeats.After a mixed year in 2016, Wozniacki also moved back to sixth place in the world rankings.The recent first-round triumph against Wang Qiang (6-1,6-7 (4), 6-1) in Beijing confirms the 27-year-old’s form.

In 2010, Wozniacki barely missed out on the tournament victory in Singapore.Kim Clijsters took the title in a thrilling three-movement final at the time.

In addition to Wozniacki, the Wimbledon winner and world number one Garbine Muguruza, Simona Halep, Karolina Pliskova, Elina Svitolina and former champion Venus Williams have already secured tickets to the Asian metropolis at an early stage.Hot candidates for the remaining places among the top eight are French Open winner Jelena Ostapenko, the British Johanna Contacts, Svetlana Kuznetsova from Russia and Wuhan winner Caroline Garcia.
