Canadian Milos Raonic returned to the Tour with a 6-3,6-4 win over Victor Troicki at the Rakuten Japan Open Tennis Championships 2017 in Tokyo.After the Masters in Montreal, the 26-year-old had to undergo wrist surgery.During the US Open, which he missed due to the injury, Raonic explained with a wink at ESPN:”It was just something I wanted to take care of.I hope my backhand makes it better.I could use this.”

Time and again, the number twelve in the world rankings is struggling with injuries.After his victory over Troicki, Raonic urged the ATP to rethink:”The geographic location and the length of the calendar, especially the major tournaments for the top players, must be reconsidered,”explained the service giant.Raonic added that it is also difficult to achieve top performances in the four Grand Slam tournaments and to play many other tournaments in between.
The former Wimbledon finalist offered a suggestion for improvement:”You should give the top players mandatory tournaments so that they can play in a seven-month window.Then they can concentrate on their body and improve in the remaining months.We need time to recover.”
Raonic compares the diary in tennis with golf:”Tennis is the only sport apart from golf, which perhaps covers the whole year and offers no time for regeneration,”the Canadian admonished.
In the second round in Tokyo, Raonic will face local hero Yuichi Sugita.
