ATP: Shanghai: Nadal further on,”Struffi” out

Rafael Nadal won the Masters in Shanghai, whereas Jan-Lennard Struff from Germany had to pack his bags.

Rafael Nadal, the star of the field, met Fabio Fognini and won 6:3 and 6:1 after only 63 minutes. The Spaniard’s concentrated performance took him to the next round and, in the quarter-finals, he will play Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov, who won against Sam Querrey.

Nadal had no problems against Fognini at any point in the game and got a better start in the sets.In both rounds, the world number one took the first serve game from his opponent and did not have to defend a break point in the entire match.

The German Jan-Lennard Struff had previously been on duty against Albert Ramos-Vinolas.For the 27-year-old Warsteiner, however, the Spaniard on the other side was too big. After Struff’s win in the previous round, in which he defeated US open finalist Kevin Anderson, the German could not catch up to his lead and was beaten 6:7 (4) and 4:6.

Wimbledon finalist Marin Cilic did better. In a one-sided game the Croatian dominated with his strong forehand and won 7-6 (1) and 6-4 against the American Steve Johnson.
