WTA: Sharapova remains on track in Tianjin

Maria Sharapova has reached the semi-finals at the WTA International Tournament in Tianjin. The 30-year-old Russian won her way through the Swiss qualifier Stefanie Vögele.

Maria Sharapova is only two victories short of winning her first title after her ban on doping. The five-time Grand Slam winner defeated Stefanie Vögele in Tianjin 6-3,6-1.After a superior performance,”MaSha” transformed her first match point with a forehand winner from the semi-field and will now face the winner of the match between local heroine Shuai Peng and Sara Sorribes Tormo (Spain).

Should Wildcard owner Sharapova win the hard court tournament in China, she would return to the top 60 in the world – at the moment, the Russian is in 86th place.
