ATP-Challenger: Gerald Melzer eliminated in Buenos Aires semi-final

Gerald Melzer has been eliminated in the semi-final of the ATP-Challenger tournament in Buenos Aires against the number one player of the event, Horacio Zeballos.

The second victory of Gerald Melzer against Horacio Zeballos in 2017 was nothing, Austria’s number three in the semi-final of the ATP challengeer from Buenos Aires was defeated by the local hero in 1:47 hours with 3:6 and 6:7 (5).Melzer thus takes 29 points from the Argentine capital for the ATP world ranking – and the knowledge to keep up with one of the world’s better clay court players.Melzer had even won his first match this season in Quito, in the tiebreak of the third set.

Zeballos had shown great success especially in Paris, but also benefited from David Goffin’s injury. In the last sixteen, the left-hander then lost out to Dominic Thiem.

For Melzer, it was the first appearance since the Davis Cup match against Romania, where the Lower Austrian had won his team’s 4-1 opener and the last, then meaningless, singles match.
