ATP: Erste Bank Open 500: Grigor Dimitrov comes to Vienna

Andy Murray has to fit for the Erste Bank Open 500 – but the World Ranking Eighth Grigor Dimitrov celebrates his premiere in Vienna!

Andy Murray has tried his best to get fit for the season finale on the ATP World Tour in recent weeks, but now the Scotsman has had to fight for the Erste Bank Open 500 from 21st to 26th September for a hull injury that has been causing him problems for quite some time.till 29.October 2017 in the Wiener Stadthalle.

“Of course we are sorry that Andy Murray can’t defend his title in Vienna. At this point we wish him a good recovery and hope that he will return to the tour in top form next year,”said Tournament Director Herwig Straka, who last weekend set all the levers in motion to direct another top ten star to Vienna after Murray’s absence from the grid.

“I’ve been in constant contact with his management over the past few weeks, so I know he’s struggled hard to make it to last year’s tournaments.”

On the night of Monday night Straka’s efforts were successful! The Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov has confirmed his participation in the tennis classic with a prize money of 2,621,850 euros and will serve for the first time in Vienna’s Stadthalle next week. The 26-year-old is the current No. 8 in the ATP ranking, and with today’s ranking, the 26-year-old has taken his best world rankings position from August 2014.

“We are pleased that Grigor Dimitrov’s short-term commitment has been successful. With it, we can present the Viennese audience with Alexander Zverev and Dominic Thiem as well as another representative of the up-and-coming generation of players,”Straka explained.

Dimitrov has won the Brisbane and Sofia tournaments this season, as well as his first ATP Masters 1000 title in Cincinnati last August. Not least thanks to these successes Dimitrov has the best chances of winning the “Nitto ATP Finals” from 12.till 19.in London on 11 November. In total, the right-hander has seven ATP tournament victories to his credit.
