ATP:”La Monf” returns again

Frenchman Gael Monfils returns from injury at the US Open and heads for the Davis Cup final between France and Belgium.

Good news for the French tennis camp.Gael Monfils seems to be fit again after his injury at the US Open.In September, the Frenchman had to give up in the third round against David Goffin.The 2016 semi-finalist in New York threw the towel at 5:7 and 1:5 and took a break until now.The reason for the task is said to have been a spread thigh injury.

Monfils seems to be able to train again.On Twitter,”La Monf” posted an explanation from his coach Mikael Tillström:”Gael is back on the pitch and we hope we can play one or two more tournaments that Gael will find his strength,”said the Swede.

The goal for Monfils is to participate in the Masters in Paris Bercy and the Davis Cup final of the French against Belgium.

The Davis Cup is something special for Gael and it is important to him that he can support France and his team-mates,”Tillström continued.

Paris Bercy is also of particular importance to the 31-year-old. In 2004, Monfils made his breakthrough with a victory over LLeyton Hewitt in his homeland.

Monfils was unable to build on his performance last year in 2017.The Frenchman moved up to sixth place in the world ranking with his personal career high and secured his first participation in the ATP World Tour Finals in London.Plagued by various injuries, Monfils fell to 46th place.place in the ranking.The cured thigh injury cost the six-time tournament winner the entire Asian Tour.Born in Paris, he only played a total of 34 games this year, of which he lost 14.In the Grand Slams he did not get past the last sixteen, and there were five first-round defeats – all of them against poorly placed opponents.
