ATP:”Young Gun” Rublev follows Zverev to Milan

With a strong second half of the season, 19-year-old Andrey Rublev has prematurely qualified for the NextGen ATP finals in Milan.

The young Russian only celebrated his first tournament victory last July.In the Croatian Umag he triumphed in the final against the Italian Paulo Lorenzi – Rublev entered the tournament as “Lucky Loser”.

The 19-year-old has long been said to have a talent for tennis, but he was only able to confirm it in the current season. The trademark of the emotional Russian is above all his forehand. After initial difficulties, the young man from Moscow gained more and more constancy and the successes began to materialize. The breakthrough was finally made at the US Open.As the youngest player since Andy Roddick in 2001, NextGen star David Goffin and Grigor Dimitrov have reached the quarter-finals.The later champion Rafael Nadal was a bit too big for the 19-year-old.

Rublev is the second player after Alexander Zverev, who prematurely qualified for the NextGen finals in Milan.

“I am very happy and pleased to have qualified for Milan.I have worked hard this year and achieved great results,”explained Rublev to the official ATP World Tour website.

In Beijing he confirmed his form at the beginning of October and scored victories over Jack Sock and Tomas Berdych in the quarter-finals, which he lost to “Sascha” Zverev.

The fight for the remaining places in the Race to Milan will be decided in the next two weeks. On the 30th.October closes the window and currently Rublev’s compatriot Karen Khachanov and Canadian Denis Shapovalov have the best maps.Behind it are Jared Donaldson, Borna Coric and Hyeon Chung. The eighth place is reserved for the winner of a U21 tournament in Italy.
