MLB: Boston Red Sox flirting with Houston’s Alex Cora

Alex Cora, Houston Astros’ benchmark coach, is at the top of the Boston Red Sox’s managerial candidates list. The President of Baseball Operations in Boston, Dave Dombrowski, held talks with Cora on Sunday (ALCS closing day) about a possible successor to John Farell as Red Sox manager.

In contrast to the Red Sox, the Houston Astros are still in the playoffs, which is why the Red Sox in Houston officially requested permission to enter into talks with Cora.

The almost 42-year-old Bench Coach has not yet trained a team in the MLB, but with experience from Winter Leagues in Puerto Rico.He is considered a strong communicator and mentor, especially for young players, and has played in Boston from 2005 to 2008.

“He’s someone who’s very good with the players,”says Astros manager A. J.Referring to Cora’s skills with ESPN.Dobrowski himself says:”We have a core of young talent, so it’s important for the future manager to be able to handle them well and shape them into even better players.”

Cora was already in discussion with the Arizona Diamondbacks last off-season as a manager.According to Dombrowski, Boston has a list of potential candidates that includes Cora, former Tigers boss Brad Ausmus and Ron Gardenhire, who previously worked for the Minnesota Twins.
