WTA: Petkovic fights his way to the last sixteen in Luxembourg

Andrea Petkovic fought her way into the last sixteen at the WTA tournament in Luxembourg.The wildcard holder from Darmstadt defeated the Croatian Petra Martic 6:1,3:6,7:6 (7:5) on Tuesday evening.

In the third set, the 30-year-old had already led 4:1, fought off three match points at 5:6 and finally won after 2:23 hours.

Petkovic will face Dutch player Kiki Bertens in the round of sixteen, against whom she won two sets at the start of the tournament in Beijing in early October.

Tatjana Maria (Bad Saulgau) had previously been the first of five German players to be eliminated.Maria, who was seeded sixth, was defeated by the British qualifier Naomi Broady 2:6,2:6.

Carina Witthöft (Hamburg) had already fought her way into the round of sixteen on Monday, where she will meet Yevgeniya Rodina (Russia).On Tuesday Sabine Lisicki (Berlin) and the top seeded Angelique Kerber (Kiel) will also be in action.
