WTA: Witthöft reaches second semi-final of its career in Luxembourg

Carina Witthöft (22) has reached the semi-finals of a WTA tournament for the second time in her career. The world rankings-73. from Hamburg prevailed in the round of the last eight at the indoor tournament in Luxembourg against Kiki Bertens from the Netherlands, who was seeded number two, 6:1,6:2.

After only 57 minutes, she converted her second match point.

Witthöft had only reached a semi-final in Budapest last February. Her next opponent on her way to the possible final premiere will be French qualifier Pauline Parmentier on Friday.

Carina Witthöft is the last of the original five German players who started in the Grand Duchy. Angelique Kerber from Kiel, Sabine Lisicki (Berlin), Andrea Petkovic (Darmstadt) and Tatjana Maria (Bad Saulgau) failed prematurely.
