The Australian serve machine Sam Groth has announced the resignation from his professional tennis career. Groth wants to hang up the racket after the Australian Open 2018.

“I’ve been thinking about it since Wimbledon,”said Groth to the Herald Sun. He has been struggling with life on the ATP tour for a long time, and has been able to see a lot of motivation lately.

“When I played in Newport, at a tournament where I had always done well in the past, I made it through qualifying for the second round of the main tournament,”said Groth,”John Isner was my opponent on the Center Court, and a lot of me just didn’t want to be there at all.”

Groth, who has always been uncomfortable with his serve and volley game, reached a career high of 53rd place in the world rankings in 2015, but has been struggling with injury worries ever since. The 30-year-old has won two doubles ATP tournaments in his career, and still holds the record for the fastest serve in a professional tennis tournament.
