WTA: Navratilova: Number-one position more meaningful than Grand Slam title

For tennis icon Martina Navratilova (61), the number one position at the end of the year is higher than a Grand Slam title.

“To reach the top of the season at the end of the season, you have to be better than anyone else. To win a slam, all you have to do is be better than seven players,”said Navratilova, former world number one in the podcast “WTA Insider” on the verge of the WTA finals of the top eight players in Singapore.

For the 18-time Major single-winner, the US Open triumph of Sloane Stephens (USA) and the French Open Coup of Latvian Jelena Ostapenko were the “surprises of the season”.
