ATP: Federer reaches Basel semi-finals after painstaking defeat of Mannarino

Roger Federer reached the semi-finals after a hard-fought defeat of Adrian Mannarino at his home tournament in Basel.

In the fourth game of the third set Roger Federer had to unpack his magic: Adrian Mannarino, who had won his first set against the Swiss player on Friday evening, returned directly to the baseline at Breakball – but Federer saved himself with a half volley, never looked back from there. And after the 4:6,6:1 and 6:3 he entered the final round of his home tournament in Basel.

The seven-time champion still has to wait for his opponent: David Goffin and Jack Sock competed in the St. Goffin and Jack Sock. Jakobs-Halle the last, very late quarter-finals.

In front of Federer, Juan Martin del Potro and Marin Cilic had qualified for the round of the last four. Cilic had the biggest problems with Marton Fucsovic from Hungary, but only won the tie-break of the third set. Del Potro also had to go over the full distance against Roberto Bautista Agut.
