Gerald Melzer has reached the final of the ATP-Challenger tournament in Lima. The Austrian Davis Cup player defeated Nicolas Kicker in two sets.
According to the old skier’s wisdom, in the case of Gerald Melzer, it’s like saying: when it’s running, then it’s running. And that’s in Lima, where Melzer is already in the final after another sovereignly led match. This time it was the Argentinean with Austrian passport, Nicolas Kicker, who had to admit defeat to the left-hander with 2:6.
In the eighth game of the second set, Kicker fought off the first two match balls of Melzers with an ace. In the following service game, the Austrian had to fight off two break points once again – in order to go off the pitch as the winner after 78 minutes.
Jozef Kovalik is now waiting for the final on Sunday. In the first semi-final, the Slovakian had also won in two sets against Italy’s Marco Cecchinato, who had placed fifth in the final. In the final, the prize money of 7,200 US dollars and 80 World Ranking List points will be awarded. Gerald Melzer could once again be among the top 120 players in the ATP World Ranking with this tournament win.
