Dominic Thiem is in the third round of the ATP Masters 1000 Tournament in Paris-Bércy: Austria’s number one defeated Peter Gojowczyk in three sets and will now face either Fernando Verdasco or Kevin Anderson.
At the end of the second set, Dominic Thiem found himself in a tight spot for Dominic Thiem: After leaving three match points unused at 6:5 and his own serve, Austria’s number one defeated Lucky Loser Peter Gojowczyk in extra time with 6:4 and 6:7 (3) and 6:4, moving into the third round of the last ATP Masters 1000 tournament of the year.
13 first serve, 13 points for Dominic Thiem – the first set was more clear than the 6:4 result. Thiem had his first two break chances in the third game, but the Austrian then struck in the fifth. Thiem convinced in the initial phase with variable play and good footwork – the problems at the feet, which had hindered the Lichtenwörther at the home tournament in Vienna, were not noticeable at first.
Gojowczyk and Thiem were facing each other last year in Metz, with the better end for the Austrian. Just there Peter Gojowczyk won his only ATP tournament there a few weeks ago.

The supposed decision was made at 5:5 in the second set: Thiem played a high praise for the baseline from the defensive – Gojowczyk missed the Smash. And so Gojowczyk showed himself to be the more solid player, Thiem helped with some unforced mistakes.
In the decision, Thiem was allowed to present his first performance for the first time, and both of them had few problems in fulfilling their duties. At 4:5 Gojowczyk put a simple forehand in the end, Thiem took the next two match points. And after 2:05 hours he won the match – because Peter Gojowczyk shot a forehand behind the baseline.
Now the winner from Fernando Verdasco or Kevin Anderson is waiting for him. Thiem has never won against the South African, and Spain’s only match in 2015 in Wimbledon has also been lost to Thiem.
