Sebastian Ofner is in the quarter-finals at the Challenger tournament in Eckental in Bavaria. Gerald Melzer continues his successful tour of South America in Ecuador, where he has already advanced to the round of sixteen.
Ofner continued his season at a Challenger in Germany after his defeat in the first round of Vienna against the later tournament winner Lucas Pouille. In the first round, he did not give the Italian Salvatore Caruso (ATP 171st) a chance and won 6-3,7-5.
In his second match, the 21-year-old defeated Bosnian Aldin Setkic 7:6 (5), 6:3. Ofner convinced in both matches with good service, he has already achieved 33 aces in the course of the tournament so far. In addition, Ofner wins 88 percent of his first serve and has never had to give up his service once. In the quarter-finals, Ofner will face Mirza Basic against another Bosnian.
Gerald Melzer is on duty at the $50,000 Challenger in Guayaquil, Ecuador this week after his tournament success in Lima/Peru. In the first round Melzer left his opponent Juan Pablo Ficovich only three games. In the round of 16, the 27-year-old will face Martin Cuevas, Pablo’s younger brother, who won the doubles competition last week in Vienna.
Melzer, who won nine of his last ten matches on clay, is the favourite against 410 in the ATP world ranking.
